ONE News 31 Jauary 2012Around 10,000 children are missing out on state financial assistance because they are under their grandparent’s care, says the founder of a trust for grandparents raising their grandchildren. TV ONE’s Close Up last night spoke to pensioners Roger and Teresa Van Kuylenburg who took on the job of raising six of their grandchildren five years ago after the children’s mother was deemed unfit to care for them. The Van Kuylenburgs receive between $162 and $195 per child, per week but the children are not entitled to other benefits they would get if they’d stayed on CYF books or gone into foster care. The children miss out on weekly pocket money of up to $14.20, birthday and Christmas allowances of up to $97.98, and an annual clothing allowance of up to $1645.44 as well as help with school, sports and health costs. Diane Vivian, founder of the Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Trust, told TV ONE’s Breakfast this morning there are nearly 5000 members on the trust’s database.http://tvnz.co.nz/national-news/children-in-care-grandparents-missing-4707993
Speaking at the unveiling, he said: “We will try and win everything. I just want to thank everyone, I feel like part of the Real family.“Yesterday, after the death of my mother, was the saddest of my life, but today is the happiest day of my life.”He was not a favourite to replace Zinedine Zidane, who shocked the football world by resigning after winning three Champions League titles in a row. Jolen Lopetegui described today as the happiest day of his life as he was officially unveiled as the new manager of Real Madrid, but yesterday was undoubtedly one of the saddest as he was sacked by Spain just days before their World Cup opener.Lopetegui agreed to take over at the Bernabeu when his work with Spain was finished, but the Spanish FA dismissed him despite their upcoming group game against Portugal on Friday night. Lopetegui had been hoping to take over at Madrid after managing Spain at the World Cup Madrid’s president did not hold back in his statement “We wanted to make it transparent and clear to prevent leaks that could damage Spain during the World Cup. This agreement seemed all normal, but then it was a reaction of pride from the FA president which has disrespected Real Madrid.“There have been cases, Conte, van Gaal, who have agreed to move on from national teams before or during a competition. Real are proud to have been able to help the success of the national team, and it is important that we remain the most respected club in the world and work against those who seek to destroy our image. I do not want to play the victim, but we must combat this anti-Madrid feeling during one of the best moments in our history.“We are hugely surprised and cannot understand how this agreement could affect the players who are committed to being world champions again. These are professional players, this agreement would not hurt them, there is nothing that does not justify Lopetegui being on the Spain bench tomorrow.“We are sorry he could not fight to make Spain world champions, but we have the satisfaction of having a great manager to make history again. This is a huge challenge not many get to face, I want to thank you Julen, and welcome you to your home.” Lopetegui said it was the happiest day of his life Madrid president Florentino Perez also spoke at the event, and he launched an extraordinary public attack on the Spanish FA.Read his remarkable statement in full below:“We wanted to have this act after the World Cup, a successful World Cup for our national team. However circumstances mean we are here now, and we are delighted to welcome the new manager of our team.“I know for you, Julen, today is a day of a lot of feelings, strange feelings, as you wanted to be world champion, you wanted to make Spain champion of the world and then be manager of your dear Real Madrid.“Inevitably there will be some comments about what has happened, but Real and Julen made an agreement to work together after the World Cup, respecting his contract. We wanted to do it before the World Cup to make it transparent and avoid rumours.“There is no precedent that a manager agrees to become manager of a team after a competition and that agreement has been interpreted as disloyal. If you think it is, well, that is not how we do things in modern Spain. It is not true at all. 3 3 3

The zodiac tells us it’s the year of the Horse, but it’s shaping up to be the year of the Drone.Facebook is in talks to acquire Titan Aerospace, a drone manufacturer, for about $60 million, according to TechCrunch. Unlike Amazon, which envisions a future of delivery drones, Facebook is reportedly planning to use drones to further Internet.org, its grand plan to bring low-cost internet access to every corner of the world.Report: How Drones Are Changing the Way We Do BusinessThe unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), which are solar powered and fly at near-orbital heights without needing to land for five years, could be used to broadcast the internet to the 5 billion people on the planet in parts of Africa and elsewhere who still don’t have access.Titan touts the drones as the world’s first “atmospheric satellites,” which have many of the same capabilities as traditional satellites including ground imaging, weather monitoring and broadcasting communication signals. If the deal goes through, Facebook would begin by building 11,000 of the Solera 60-type UAVs, TechCrunch reports.Related: Look Out, Amazon: Dubai Could Have Delivery Drones by Year’s EndInternet.org competes with Google’s Project Loon, a similar initiative that uses balloons instead of drones to deliver internet to developing parts of the world.By providing people with their first online experience in places where the internet is far from ubiquitous, both companies hope to develop loyal, lifelong customers. 2015, in many ways, was a year in which digital advertising failed the consumer, and many of these fed-up users finally took a stand with ad-blocking. From irrelevant ads to intrusive ad formats, it’s never been more clear that the industry could be doing so much better. This year, it’s way past time for brands and agencies to start putting consumers’ needs and their state of mind first when delivering mobile advertising. In the fast-paced digital era, consumers put a high premium on their time and attention, and expect to have control over their interactions with brands, on their terms, especially on their most personal device – mobile. The advertising world needs to recognize that, and there needs to be a user-first paradigm shift in mobile advertising that looks something like this:1. Adopt a user-first approach. There’s a reason the industry finally started catching on to mobile moments last year: consumers will not engage with your ad if it’s disruptive and doesn’t intuitively flow with their experience. Therefore, advertisers need to use the data available to them – without being invasive – to determine when the optimal moments are during an in-app user journey to approach user with a contextualized brand message that makes sense and increases receptivity.Related: Customers Are Still Slow to Adopt Innovative Tech. Why the Lag?2. Don’t hijack the steering wheel (or the screen).Though there are a few exceptions, most advertisers still approach users like it’s 2003. Laughably poor digital ad formats that have been around for decades, such as banner ads, pre-roll and other inescapable interstitials, simply do not belong on mobile. They only annoy users, and are a disservice to your brand and messaging. As more and more users spend time in unique app environments like messaging services, health trackers, photo editors, and more, it’s time for brands to start thinking creatively about the delivery of the ads they place in these mediums. Ads can’t hijack the experience; they have to be part of the experience, and make sense to the user.Related: 4 Digital Marketing Trends to Pay Attention to Right Now3. Let users choose the route. In order for advertising to be radically non-invasive, it’s time for brands to embrace the idea of letting consumers choose how and when to engage with their message. It may be a hard pill to swallow, but if you want to increase brand favorability and recall, then stay out of the consumer’s way, and give them the power to choose to engage with you – opt in to the experience – then they’re much more likely to form a positive relationship with the brand. Think of your advertising as outreach, offering interaction without forcing it.4. Offer value. If you’ve gotten this far in your ad strategy, you’ve done your homework. You’ve contextualized your approach to your user’s digital environment and what they’re experiencing at the time. Using that information, understanding their needs and state of mind, you – as a brand – can ensure your message and your approach align with it and offer a value proposition to the user. There’s no better way to gain their attention and their affection by making them feel like their attention is worth something, and that they get something out of it in return.Related: Make Your Advertising Work for YouThe truth is, these ideas individually aren’t new, but all of them being implemented together in mobile advertising is critical. Unfortunately brands and agencies taking the “easy approach” and are falling into the same traps of old tactics gone sour – losing money on metrics that don’t prove any actual engagements, and losing credibility among consumers. But, by adapting this mobile-first, user-first mentality, your campaigns will have more impact and turn around better results – thus turning users into brand evangelists vs. brand blockers. This hands-on workshop will give you the tools to authentically connect with an increasingly skeptical online audience. To provide compatibility with a wide range of Windows-only games to all Linux users, a Beta version of the new and improved Steam Play is now available. It uses Proton, a modified distribution of Wine, to allow games which are exclusive to Windows to run on Linux and macOS operating systems. Proton is an open source tool, allowing advanced users to alter the code to make their own local builds. The included improvements to Wine have been designed and funded by Valve, in a joint development effort with CodeWeavers. In order to identify games that currently work great in this compatibility environment and solve the issues, if any, they are testing the entire Steam catalog. The list of games that they are enabling with this Beta release include: Beat Saber, Bejeweled 2 Deluxe, Doki Doki Literature Club!, DOOM, Fallout Shelter, FATE, FINAL FANTASY VI, and many more. Using Steam Play the gamers can purchase the games once and play anywhere. Whether you have purchased your Steam Play enabled game on a Mac, Windows, or Linux, you will be able to play on the other platform free of charge. What are the improvements introduced? You can now install and run Windows games with no Linux version currently available, directly from the Linux Steam client, complete with native Steamworks and OpenVR support. Improved game compatibility and reduced performance impact is facilitated by DirectX 11 and 12 whose implementations are now based on Vulkan. The support for fullscreen games is improved allowing them to seamlessly stretch to the desired display without interfering with the native monitor resolution or requiring the use of a virtual desktop. The support for game controller is improved enabling games to automatically recognize all controllers supported by Steam. Improved performance for multi-threaded games as compared to vanilla Wine. They have mentioned that there could be a performance difference for games where graphics API translation is required, but there is no fundamental reason for a Vulkan title to run any slower. You can find out more about the Stream Play Beta, the full list of supported games, and how Proton works in the Steam post.
