Two World Cup Reporters Robbed in Moscow

first_imgTwo foreign journalists covering Russia 2018 World Cup have had run-ins with crime in Moscow.According to Russian publication, The Moscow Times, the journalists, one of them an American was reportedly stabbed and the other, a British reporter was drugged and then robbed.Russia has stepped up its campaign to hold a safe and secure football championship this summer with strict security measures that could remain in place after the football tournament wraps up this Sunday. The unnamed American journalist was allegedly stabbed during an altercation at a bar in Moscow, an anonymous law enforcement source told the state-run news agency, TASS, on Monday.A suspect was detained and the victim was treated for stab wounds, the news agency reported.Meanwhile, a BBC journalist was allegedly drugged and robbed late last week by assailants who were unlicensed taxi drivers, according to Russia’s RBC business portal.The journalist, a British citizen who came to Russia to cover the World Cup, reportedly lost consciousness inside a car after drinking a coffee offered to him by the driver and an accomplice.When he awoke near the Dynamo metro station in north Moscow, his cell phone and bank card were gone.RBC reports that £ 550 pounds ($729) were withdrawn from his account. Staff used two hand lines to bring the fire under control.The total loss of the vehicle was $320,000.According to media reports, Daniel James and his wife are from McAlester, Okla. and were returning home from a vacation in Alaska. They were not hurt, nor were their two dogs who were traveling with them.Cause of the fire is unknown.There was a six-mile backup as emergency crews cleaned up the scene, according to the Kansas Turnpike Authority.There was mutual aid from Fire District 9 and was worked by the Kansas State Patrol. first_imgCALGARY, A.B. – A day after 5 year-old Taliyah Marsman’s body was found, and her mother was killed earlier in the week, the families have released a statement through the Calgary Police Service expressing grief and sadness over the murders.“We all are feeling the most profound grief and sadness that stems from the inconceivable and senseless murders of both Sara Baillie and Taliyah Marsman, Sara’s daughter.At this point in time, we respectfully request that all media outlets respect the families’ privacy and direct all questions through the Calgary Police Service Public Affairs Media Relations Unit.Accordingly, the families would like to extend their gratitude to the Calgary Police Service (“CPS”), who have devoted countless resources of hours, dedicated men and women and technology.
