Morocco, a partner for Russian investors to conquer African markets

Moscow – Morocco proposes to be a partner for Russian investors wishing to conquer the African market, said on Tuesday chairwoman of the Moroccan enterprise association (CGEM), Miriem Bensalah Chaqroun.Due to its strategic location, Morocco is a link between Europe and Africa and has all it takes to become a partner of Russian investors wishing to conquer the African continent, she told the Moroccan-Russian economic forum.After recalling that Morocco has concluded over 30 free-trade agreements, including with the European Union, the USA and Turkey, she recommended joint investments between Moroccan and Russian economic operators. She also insisted that it is high time to lend some added-value to trade between the two countries, noting that Morocco has drafted work plans for the promotion of several sectors and stands ready to sell its food-industry, fish, and high-quality manufactured products.Trade between the two countries went up from 1.5 billion Dollars in 2010 to 2.5 billion dollars in 2013, posting a 33pc increase, she said recalling that the number of Russian tourists to Morocco increased by 60pc between 2012 and 2013 after the opening of a direct air line between Casablanca and Moscow.
