Jadrolinija’s new 25m-euro ship to connect remote islands

first_imgAccording to the new conceptual design, Jadrolinija’s ship for remote islands should have a capacity of 900 passengers and 200 vehicles, and the value of this investment is estimated at around 25 million euros. That amount is half less than the one foreseen in the project of the former management of the company headed by Alan Klanc, when the price of 50 million euros was foreseen, Novi List writes. After personnel changes in the largest Croatian passenger shipping company and the appointment of David Sopta as the head of the company, it was concluded that this was too great and unjustified cost, so the preliminary design was re-ordered to realize the concept of a slightly smaller and thus significantly cheaper ship for remote foreign islands. So now, instead of 120 meters, the length of the ship is 102,6 meters, while the capacity has been reduced from 1.500 to 900 passengers. The strategic goal of the company remains the same as before, and that is the construction of a ship that will be adapted to maintain lines to the islands of Lastovo, Vis, Korcula and Hvar, or a ship that will replace the inadequate and obsolete ship “Lastovo”, built in 1970 and has a capacity for only 60 vehicles. As the President of the Management Board of Jadrolinija, David Sopta, points out, the company now has the task of preparing contract documentation, followed by the announcement of a public tender for the construction of the ship, which should last about two years.Source: New sheetlast_img
